108th California Art Club Annual Gold Medal Exhibition includes two of my Paintings

Winter White 16 x 20

Above Batiquitos 9 x 12

The Gold Medal Exhibition takes place March 3 to March 29 at 490 E Union St Pasadena

This is my ninth consecutive time in the Gold Medal Exhibition!

The California Art Club’s signature exhibition of contemporary-traditional fine art spotlights more than 300 sculptures and paintings of genres ranging from landscapes and seascapes to figures and still lifes. The exhibiting artists include nationally renowned representational artists who have been active in expanding interest in the California Impressionist heritage associated with the organization’s founding in 1909. While the artists employ time-honored fine art techniques, their featured works in this un-themed exhibition seek to innovate with modern messages that address societal issues from diversity to the environment.
In presenting the 108th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the location of the former Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA), the California Art Club returns to the venue that previously presented eight installments of its signature event – including the historic 100th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition.

NWS /Oceanside Museum of Art Exhibition through April 21st

Santa Monica Mountains 14 x 21 is on exhibit now until April 21st at the Oceanside Museum of Art exhibit of the National Watercolor Society: Southern California Inspirations. Past and Present

This Exhibition will also include several curated works from past SoCal-based NWS members: Art Riley, Barse Miller, Emil Kosa Jr., Hardy Gramatky, Jade Fon, James Green, Jake Lee, James Patrick, Marion Wachtel, Milford Zornes, Millard Sheets, Phil Dike, Phil Paradise, Ralph Hulett, Rex Brandt, Robert E. Wood.

The mountains in Southern California are younger and more angular than in Northern California where I  have painted in the past.
The geometry of the rocks contrasts with the vegetation in a way that is very beautiful to me.
I often think of fabric as I paint these patterned places.

San Diego Maritime Museum, Sea and Shore Exhibit

Dusk Point Loma 11 x 14

About the exhibits:

Arthur Beaumont “Art of the Sea” and “Sea & Shore” Plein Air Paintings On Display for a Limited Time at Maritime Museum of San Diego

Showing February 23 – September 30, 2019

Open concurrently with the Beaumont art exhibit, the Museum is proud to introduce “Sea and Shore” on display in the Compass Gallery located on the main level of the Berkeley. This art exhibit features submissions from members of the Plein Air Painters Association of San Diego (PAPASAN). The artists of the Plein Air Painters Association of San Diego have been on the plein air scene since 1999, painting the essence of San Diego, whose very identity is uniquely defined by the sea. PAPASAN members paint San Diego’s beautiful beaches, tidepools, estuaries, harbors and marinas. The art of painting en plein air, or painting outdoors, is an essential endeavor for an artist. Plein air painting is perhaps one of the most difficult genres to master.
This group of professional fine artists are regionally and nationally known, have independently exhibited their works in museums and galleries throughout the country, and are members of national professional art organizations. Many of their works appear in national art publications, and some are included in recently published books such as California Light: Seascapes and Beach Towns. They continue to contribute to the artistic record of San Diego, especially documenting its vibrant maritime scene.

I am pleased to share that "Blue Ridge" has received the Plein Air Award the 10th Annual Signature American Watermedia International Exhibition. The exhibit was juried by Soon Y Warren. It is limited to artists who have achieved signature status in a select group of watercolor societies. I am fortunate enough to be a Signature Member of AWS,NWS and a Master Signature of the CWA (MCWA).

I am thrilled to be accepted this year as I am now living a few miles away instead of hundreds.

I will be at the reception this Saturday and hope to see Southern Californian friends there!
