Mesa of Many Colors
15x 21 watercolor
This is the Mesa behind my house in North Coastal San Diego county.
The greens and their complements of copper and rose inspired me to paint this. The colors glow under the May Grey sky.

At Lake Calavera in 7th Lpapa Waterworks Exhibit
At Lake Calavera 12 x 16 Plein air watercolor will be on exhibit online and at the Lpapa gallery in Laguna Beach.
The vegetation on this hill got so lush and beautiful with all the rain we had last winter. It was a pleasure to be able to wax this one , the process seemed to make the colors richer.

Monumental Miniatures 2022. California Art Club Exhibition
“ Rising” Plein air watercolor will be on exhibit at the California Art Club Gallery at the Old Mill from September 29 to January 22 2023.
One of just 54 highly curated images I am pleased to have this painting of Font’s Point in the exhibit. A lesser known part of California history, Font’s Point was on the route discovering a link from the Spanish settlements in Arizona to the ones in California.
“Rising “ was an afternoon painting where I felt heat rising off the land . It was painted during the Borrego Springs Plein Air Invitational.

Carlsbad Flower Fields Series
As the Flower Fields wind down their season, thought I would share this years crop. I am still working on balanceing abstraction with the subject and making paintings that communicate how I feel about these geometric block of saturated color. Still enthralled with the work of Carmen Herrara.

Best Watercolor in Plein Air Salon Competition from CW Mundy!
I am honored and thrilled that “Spring Song of Malibu” was awarded best watercolor in the December 2021 Plein Air Salon Contest for Plein Air Magazine. I admire C w Mundy as an artist very much, which is why I entered this months contest.
There is a certain logic behind this entry. The last timeI won an award , Michael Zakian was the judge. I entered then because I admired his skills and judgement as a curator and art historian. It takes a combination of a judge I feel strongly about and a painting I feel is an original statement that I hope will be appreciated and understood. This was painted for the on location in Malibu exhibit at Pepperdine University where Micheal Zakian was Curator.
